What to do about peer review?

José Javier Otero, M.D., Ph.D.

Peer review is a constant source of frustration amongst biomedical and clinical researchers.  It also causes a significant quantity of unnecessary stress to junior trainees who often feel that the values of the peer review process conflict with their own values.  Dr. Glaucomflecken has a hilarious video on this (https://youtu.be/ukAkG6c_N4M).  In this podcast I review why we have a peer review system, what niche the journals have filled, and what compensation (or lack of) is given to peer reviewers.  I suggest a few strategies to dealing with the stress of peer review.
